UN Special Rapporteur Mary Lawlor will present her statement of preliminary findings on the situation of Human Rights Defenders after a nine-day visit to Greece. She visited Athens, Lesvos, Chios, Samos, and Thessaloniki, and visited facilities hosting migrants, asylum seekers and refugees.
She met with national and local government officials, including from the Ministries of Migration and Asylum, Justice, Citizen Protection, and Foreign Affairs. She held meetings with prosecutors, officials from the police and the Hellenic Coast Guard.
She also met a large number of civil society representatives, including lawyers, journalists, women human rights defenders, LGBTI defenders, grassroots organizations and volunteer human rights defenders.
