I’m receiving disturbing reports that the whereabouts of environmental rights defender and pro-democracy activist Kyaw Minn Htut remain unknown after his arrest by the military in Myanmar last week.
Kyaw Minn Htut is a long-standing advocate for the protection of forests and transparency within the extractive industries in Myanmar. He was arrested in the Sagaing Region on 6 September under article 50 of Myanmar’s Anti-Terrorist Act. Several of his family members were arrested with him.
I am deeply concerned for Kyaw Minn Htut wellbeing, and urge the military to release information on his whereabouts and ensure his rights are upheld while he is detained.
