The Office of the UN Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth has published a report on young Human Rights Defenders, an area previously not explored in great detail by the global level. The report, “If I disappear- Global Report on Protecting Young People in Civic Space“, comes at a moment of particular relevance, with youth-led movements particularly in relation to climate change, organising themselves on a global scale. The report fills previous gaps in knowledge on threats and barriers faced by young defenders.
Children and young people who are human rights defenders are one of the priorities of my mandate, and I encourage young Human Rights Defenders, particularly those at risk, to get in touch with me.
