I’m receiving reports that in the morning of 8 June 2021, Myanmar Human Rights Defender Man Zar Myay Mon was shot in the leg by members of the military as he travelled on his motorbike in Shan Htoo Village in the Sagain Region, and that when he fell from his bike was immediately arrested.
Man Zar Myay Mon has worked for a number of years promoting accountability and fighting corruption in extractive industries in the Sagain Region. He has led a number of peaceful demonstrations since the February 2021 coup in Myanmar.
I am deeply concerned about the reports that he is in military custody, particularly if he has been shot.
