This year, online work has become more important for us than ever. Since taking up the mandate of Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders on 1 May 2020, in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, I have been trying to find better ways to promote the work of Human Rights Defenders.
That’s why I’ve launched a new website, where you’ll be able to:
- Stay up to date on the latest activities of the mandate for the protection of Human Rights Defenders at risk.
- Read up on Human Rights Defenders, the work they do and the challenges they face.
- Learn more about my role and how to get in touch with my team.
- Discover resources useful to you as a Human Rights Defender, State representative, Business entity or CSO.
Here are some tips to make the best use of the site:
- In “Official letters and statements” you’ll find an easily navigable selection of letters and press releases I issue through UN Special Procedures.
- In the “Latest information received by the SR” section, you’ll find additional information on human rights defenders at risk as well as interesting reports, and good news stories I hear from human rights defenders around the world.
I hope this website becomes a space where HRDs, State officials, journalists, businesspeople and all those interested in the work of Human Rights Defenders feel welcome and find useful.
